Share your stories and experiences of inclusive housing for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities at this interactive open house event!

July 25, 2023
11am – 3 pm
3425 Uplands Drive, Nanaimo BC

We welcome everyone interested in mapping the need for inclusive housing in their community.

Snacks and beverages will be provided throughout the day.

What is the open house?

The interactive open house is a space for open conversations with everyone to share their vision for an inclusive Nanaimo.

Inclusive housing means housing that suits everyone’s needs and considers things like wheelchair ramps, medical support, elevators, space for a service animal, railings, affordability, and being close to transit and community amenities among many other things. Help us inform how local organizations and the government can build and provide inclusive housing to Nanaimo that works for your community.

We will bring your thoughts to local community leaders and governments to increase inclusive housing opportunities and strengthen advocacy in your community. By gathering and mapping local data on the housing needs of people with disabilities as part of our Community Engagement and Partnership Mapping campaign, we will highlight the need and opportunities for inclusive housing over the next three years and the barriers that exist today.

With your help, we can decide what an inclusive Nanaimo looks like together.

Why this is important:

More than 5,000 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are looking for homes in British Columbia. Breaking down this number per community will enable key information to be used for strong local advocacy with governments and community leaders.
