Everyone deserves the freedom to learn, live, work, and thrive.
From the moment I called and made an appointment with Inclusion BC, our family’s situation started to change for the better, improving the quality of my son’s life – and our family’s – immensely.
My son’s school was refusing to provide accommodations to support his disability, and he was at risk of undoing all the progress he had made through three years of therapy, hard work and courage.
Our advocate was both an excellent listener and communicator. With a sympathetic ear, she listened to me while I emotionally unfolded all the stressful events that had occurred when dealing with my son’s school and the district. She provided compassion and respect, but also efficiently understood our situation, laid out the sources that would support our position, and described what possible steps could be taken next.
Our advocate was there during important meetings with the district. Her presence gave me the confidence to sit in a room with and present my case to all these people who’d had authority and power over us and who hadn’t been willing to provide my son with the resources he needed.
I really appreciated that the advocate followed my lead, allowing me to have the experience of advocating for my son, while also being available to step in and back me up when needed. This might be one of the most valuable services that Inclusion BC provided – that I now have the confidence to address an intimidating system and the knowledge that I can effect changes for the well-being of my son.
By letting me take the lead, Inclusion BC helped me to understand just how capable I am of being an effective advocate for my son. Since then, I have continued to advocate for him on my own. This knowledge has reduced my stress so much as I continue to navigate progress with the school.
I have so much respect for your support of Inclusion BC. Thank you for helping us. My son’s life and our family’s life are so much better now that he can focus on being a little boy and enjoy growing up. This has been life-changing for us. I am so grateful for your support.
