Inclusion BC celebrates an incredible milestone this year—70 years of unwavering advocacy, leadership, and progress toward building a truly inclusive society. Since its founding in 1955, Inclusion BC has championed the rights and dignity of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities across British Columbia. From helping to close institutions and promoting community living to advancing inclusive education and employment opportunities, Inclusion BC has remained at the forefront of the disability rights movement. Its dedication has shaped provincial policies, shifted public attitudes, and empowered countless people and families to live fuller, self-directed lives.
Over the past seven decades, Inclusion BC has grown into a powerful voice for change, amplifying the perspectives of self-advocates and fostering stronger, more connected communities. The organization’s work supporting inclusive housing, person-centered planning, and access to quality education has laid a foundation for equity that continues to evolve. Its legacy is one of courage, collaboration, and hope—a reminder that when we remove barriers and embrace diversity, everyone benefits. As we celebrate this 70th anniversary, we honour past achievements and look ahead with renewed commitment to a future where inclusion is not just a vision, but a reality for all.
