A 2-hour program of short films and conversation exploring the representation of disability in Canadian film. For our third annual Film Festival, we partnered with the National Film Board to present a historical journey from early 1960s public broadcast films exploring childhood in Canada to the premiere of our own short film, Disability Pride 2017. UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD)
Who: Inclusion BC Foundation & BC Self-Advocacy Foundation present a festival programmed and hosted by people with intellectual disabilities.
Why: The movement from segregation towards full inclusion of people with disabilities is an essential part of Canada’s coming-of-age story. Join us in Canada’s 150th year as we explore how the portrayal of disability in Canadian film has reflected our evolution from exclusion to disability pride over 60 years, and how the disability rights movement relates to Canada’s broader transformation towards a more just and inclusive society for all.

About #IDPD2017: In 1992, the United Nations proclaimed the annual observance of IDPD to increase awareness and promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development. The theme for 2017 is “Transformation towards a sustainable and resilient society for all.”
