Conversations in Castlegar

In-person engagements in Castlegar and Surrounding Communities are now complete.  Thank you to everyone who came out to share their ideas and experiences with us.

We received feedback from the community about the first draft of the report. Now it’s time talk solutions!

You’re invited to a Zoom session on July 2, 2024, from 1:00-2:30pm PST to discuss community-centred solutions for creating a better network of services and supports for children and youth with disabilities and their families in your communities.

After your registration, you will receive a link to the Community Report to review before the solutions meeting, or you can request a copy by emailing clcproject@inclusionbc.org

In June of 2023, we hosted conversations to hear how there can be a better network of services and supports for children and youth with disabilities or support needs in Castlegar and surrounding communities.

These conversations were designed with the intention of creating inclusive, culturally safe, and accessible spaces to connect. Children and youth with support needs are 0-19 years of age, have a disability, diagnosed or undiagnosed, need support, and/or have a possible developmental delay.

We had conversations in Castlegar with:

    • Youth, families, and caregivers.
      • At Kootenay Family Place on Thursday, June 15, 2023
      • At COINS on Saturday, June 17, 2023
  • Local community service providers.
    • At Kootenay Family Place on Friday, June 16, 2023

In each conversation, participants were invited to share their ideas about:

  • What services and supports for children and youth with support needs are working well in Castlegar and surrounding areas?
  • What gaps in services and support exist?
  • What does a better network of services and supports look like in Castlegar and surrounding areas?
Our approach to advocacy is guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, which recognizes the full citizenship and human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Kerridan Dougan, Advocate
