Shaping Inclusion BC’s Strategic Plan Together

Building an Inclusive Future:

An impactful strategic plan is never created in isolation it’s built from the diverse perspectives and lived experiences of the people it’s meant to serve.

This past January and February, Inclusion BC partnered with external facilitators from Apostrophe to launch a series of conversations about our future. Through an Appreciative Inquiry approach, we invited our staff, Board Directors, and member organizations to reflect on what’s working, what could be strengthened, and what they envision for the next five years.

Nearly 70 perspectives shaped this process, including:

  • 39 CEOs and Executive Directors from our member organizations
  • 17 staff members from across Inclusion BC
  • 10 Board Directors

In each conversation, participants reflected on three big questions:

  1. What is working well at Inclusion BC?
  2. What opportunities for improvement or change exist? Where are the gaps?
  3. What are the biggest hopes for the future of Inclusion BC and its impact?

The insights we gathered were thoughtful, candid, and inspiring. Together, they shaped a plan that reflects our collective vision for an inclusive future.

We are excited to share this new strategic plan with you. It represents not just goals on paper, but a living commitment to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, and the communities we all belong to.

This is only the beginning. As we move forward, we will continue the conversation with people and their families, our member organizations, staff and Board Directors, community partners, and government—so that everything we do remains rooted in what matters most: creating meaningful impact and belonging for all.

Our approach to advocacy is guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, which recognizes the full citizenship and human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Kerridan Dougan, Advocate
