Celebrating Diversity & Inclusion at Clements Centre’s Luau Block Party

On September 12th, the Clements Centre hosted their community together for a vibrant celebration of diversity and inclusion during Disability Employment Awareness Month. The event, styled as a luau-themed block party, welcomed community members, organizations, employers, and supporters to connect, learn, and celebrate the power of inclusive employment.

Guests enjoyed an afternoon filled with:

• Delicious food and treats
• Exciting prizes and giveaways
• Live music performances by talented artists from across Vancouver Island
• Interactive exhibit booths showcasing local organizations and opportunities

Among the exhibitors, Inclusion BC hosted a table highlighting the MentorAbility program, which is a unique initiative that connects job explorers (mentees) with local businesses and professionals in areas of career interest. Through MentorAbility, job explorers gain valuable one-on-one mentorship experiences, while employers have the chance to support talent, share expertise, and foster inclusive workplaces.

The atmosphere was filled with warmth, laughter, and connection. The day highlighted how every act of coming together makes our communities more inclusive and resilient. Employers and organizations had the chance to meet and share resources, while families and friends enjoyed the festive island-inspired theme.

The Clements Centre continues to play an important role in creating inclusive opportunities and sparking conversations about the value people with disabilities bring to our workplaces and communities. This block party was a perfect way to emphasis the importance of Disability Employment Awareness Month, while also celebrating the community spirit that makes these efforts thrive.
