Be a Community Ambassador for Inclusion
Diversity Includes is a civic engagement campaign that helps you connect with your local Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) to highlight issues that directly impact people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in your community.
Inclusion BC makes this advocacy experience as easy as possible, offering you help and resources every step of the way. To get started, email us at info@inclusionbc.org and tell us you want to become a Community Ambassador. We’ll help you prepare for your meeting with your MLA, and send you a package of background sheets on key issues like:
- Supports to Children and Families
- Inclusive Education
- Income Security and Disability Support
- Inclusive Housing
- Health and Mental Health
You can bring these sheets to your meeting, or send them to your MLA via email before or after you meet. We can also send you an email template if you are corresponding with your MLA through email.
Every Conversation Makes a Difference
Even if your MLA doesn’t seem supportive by the end of your meeting, stay positive! Remember: This is a collective action that grows stronger with each visit by each person. The most important thing is the number of MLAs who have heard the same message from you and your peers across the province. After your visit, tell us how it went! Here is a short survey to share your experience. Telling us about your experience can help us guide future Community Ambassadors and improve our resources.
