February is National Inclusive Education Month

Every February, we raise awareness of inclusive education: what it means, why it matters and how we can do better. This year we're  focusing on the importance of collaborative partnerships and the many people who help to make our schools more inclusive.

As Canadians, we value our diverse communities and the strength we draw from being an inclusive society. Research has shown us that inclusive education supports better outcomes for all students.

Children who learn together in welcoming, inclusive schools grow up to help build strong and diverse communities where we all belong.

2018 National Inclusive Education Awards

This year Inclusion BC is excited to partner with the Family Support Institute of BC and the Canadian Association for Community Living (CACL) to honour leadership, innovation and excellence in educational practice.

Our 2018 awards highlight different educator roles, teamwork and innovation that are key to supporting success for diverse learners. Leadership, school-wide culture, effective supports and collaboration are essential to advancing successful inclusion, from pre-school, through K-12 and post-secondary.

Do you know a great inclusive educator? We invite anyone to nominate candidates for the following awards:

  • Education Leadership: School, district, preschool and post-secondary leaders and administrators
  • Inclusive Teaching: Classroom and resource teachers, peer mentors, instructors, early childhood educators
  • Inclusion Support: Learning assistants, in-school support workers

Join us in celebrating the wonderful educators across Canada who are helping to make our schools more welcoming, supportive and inclusive so that all students can grow and thrive, knowing they truly belong and are valued.

Nomination deadline: April 10, 2018.

The 2018 awards will be presented at our annual event in Kelowna, BC, May 24-26.
