October is Community Living Month - Delta Community Living Society is pleased to offer a series of workshops specifically for families with a relative with autism or a developmental disability. These workshops will focus on some of the important things to consider for your loved one as you plan for the future.

This workshop is for families who have a relative with a disability who would like to find out more about the Registered Disability Savings Plan and the up to $90,000 in federal contributions they could get . It is also open to ANYONE who has the Disability Tax Credit.

The Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) is a federal program designed to help people with disabilities and their families save money for their long-term financial security. It is a Canada-wide registered savings plan specific for people with disabilities. It is a unique savings program that allows savings to grow in a tax-deferred environment and provides matching federal contributions, for every $1 you put in the government will put $3 in! Canada is the first country in the world to have an RDSP, which helps those living with a disability and their families save for the future.

What you will learn at this workshop:

  • An overall understanding of what the RDSP is and how it works
  • How to become eligible, open and manage your RDSP
  • How to benefit and maximize your savings
  • Updates and changes to the RDSP
  • You can ask an expert all your questions and concerns
  • Our sessions are held in a small group setting so that individual questions can easily be answered.

If you would like more information on this workshop contact Si Stainton, Family Services Manager at 604-952-6490 or sstainton@dcls.ca.
